Is this the one? When you are staring down that huge hill in front of you, that problem you are facing, that story on the news that is making your blood boil, that idiot you see all the time that is driving you crazy, do you ask yourself how far are you willing to press the issue. What are you willing to do to win the battle ? What lengths are you willing to go to get your way ? What is the price you are willing to pay to win?
Is this the hill you want to die on? What if you lose the fight and you do not have anything left to fight for?
These are the hard choices that everyone has to face in both their personal and professional lives and too often I see folks choosing the wrong hills to fight for. So before you gear up for a huge battle for the next uber critical thing you just have to fight for…ask yourself … Is this it? Is this the hill you want to die on ?

Looking for something totally unrelated, I happened by this post. I suddenly realized that for the past few days I have been slowly but steadily climbing up a hill, preparing for battle. Taking a deep breath, I have made a conscience decision to turn and walk back down that hill. Now my pride keeps making me look back; and seeing the very thing that is causing my angst standing on that hill makes me want to run back up wielding my sword. But you are right. Chances are I would fall on the very sword I plan on fighting with – and even if I win the battle I would lose the war. Or what’s worse, I’d lose my soul.
I’m not a religious man, but I do believe in fate; and I do believe in karma. I wish to keep both in my favor, so I thank you for whatever led you to write this.
As they say… discretion is the better part of valor.
